Welcome to my website! Firstly you might be wondering why I'm Orange Fox Eventing..... well it really came about because Orange has always been my favourite colour (its so bright and happy, and makes you smile I think) and Fox is my maiden name! So nothing special but I think a name that really matches who I am.
I am an amateur rider based in the Scottish Borders. I try to balance working full time and having fun with my horses. Most of my riding is planned around preparing my horses to compete at affiliated British Eventing national and FEI International horse trials (known as Eventing).
Eventing is the ultimate test of horse and rider, it has evolved from the training of cavalry horses and in modern day comprises of three disciplines - dressage, showjumping and cross country. All ridden as a horse and rider combination with the aim to obtain the lowest number of penalties.
It takes a lot of work to prepare for eventing - to develop their balance, rhythm and suppleness (assessed in the dressage phase), their accuracy and carefulness (for the showjumping) and their fitness, stamina and boldness (tested in the cross country phase). As an amateur rider I try to balance working on all areas and improving areas of weakness to be able to be consistent and competitive when I am out and about. I'm not the best rider when it comes to dressage (show jumping and cross country being my strongest areas) but I love it and my horses come home happy. .
